The Experiment: Day 304 ~ Being A Grandma Is The BEST!

Here’s the thing, it all just goes too fast. I was at Lucas’s birth. I babysat him when he was little when Rachel went back to school to get her Master’s Degree. And in the blink of an eye he is 14. In a couple of weeks he starts high school in a special school that has an accelerated program for college credit. How can he be growing up this fast?

Today we got to spend the afternoon together and we had the best time! I took him out to lunch, that’s us in the restaurant above. Then I took him to a shop he likes where they have games and the “Magic Cards” he loves. Then we went to the movies to see “The Incredibles 2.” We saw the first Incredibles movie when he was pretty little, and watched it again recently with Rachel, it was fun to see this new movie with him.

Lucas is the eldest of my 4 grandsons and the only one that lives here in town. I have been able to be part of his life as he has been growing up and it means the world to me. It is so hard to have your children and grandchildren living away. I treasure being able to see Lucas and spend time with him.

My eldest daughter, Jenny, lives in Chicago with my 3 and 6 year old grandsons, Silas and Pierce. They will be here for a visit next month and then we won’t see them again until the holidays. My youngest, Aaron, lives with his family, and my baby grandson, 2 year old Atlas, in Atlanta. They will be here for a visit in September and then sometime over the holidays. With the out-of-towners I love being able to FaceTime with them on my iPhone, the whole reason I finally got an iPhone a year ago which I wrote about here recently. but it is still really hard for me to have them all so far away. I thank God all the time that Rachel is here with her family and that I can spend time with Lucas.

It was a lovely day and you know what? This grandma is pooped. I am just going to share this short blog post and watch a couple of videos here on the computer and then curl up with the pugs early tonight in our big recliner and kick back and binge watch Queer Eye which I am madly in love with. Right now I am just a happy blissy grandma and I am going to kick back!

I hope you have all had a beautiful day. More from me tomorrow…

  1. Maitri,
Being a Grandma, Nana, or Nonnie, is indeed the most terrific experience. So glad you had a wonderful day with your grandson.
    Hugs,
    Lauren

    • Thank you so much dear Lauren, it was a wonderful day indeed, and extra special wonderful because I no sooner got this blog post up than my daughter Jenny FaceTimed me from Chicago with my 2 little 3 and 6 year old grandsons so I got to see all of them and talk to them too! I am a truly blissy happy grandma indeed! It’s been a wonderful day…

Hugs right back to you honey…

  2. So happy for you and your Grandson that you were able to get out and enjoy each other. I love the picture of the two of you together.

I bet you are pooped. What a week you’ve had lady! Wow!

    Much Love, Jean

    • Thank you Jean it was really a wonderful day. I am about to get off the computer and curl up with the pugs. It has been a wonderful week so far and tomorrow is therapy. And I am working on the material for our next Sunday night group. These are rich times indeed.

    • Thank you darling Ka, it has been a special week indeed. And last night instead of binge watching my show as I’d planned I curled up with the pugs with a couple of favorite old books and my notebook and read through the books and began making notes for our next class. And then I got tired and turned out the light by 10:30. It was a wonderful day but I was pooped!

Now I’m having my coffee, Wednesday morning, and I go to therapy today. Life just keeps on rolling, doesn’t it?

      I love you sweet friend…

  4. Perfect to be out with Lucas having lunch and then a movie!

Yay, for getting out there for sure, along with everything else you’ve been doing this week.

    • Thank you Lisa honey, so much has been happening. Lucas starts school August 8, early for the special high school he is going to that is an early college kind of program. He is really going to have his plate full, and he and his dad are going to the mountains rock climbing next week, so I wanted to get him out for a fun day before he gets going with school. It’s a very intense program. I’m so proud of him for being accepted. And now I am working on material for our next class. I look forward to seeing you there! 🙂

  5. What a wonderful day for you both! I hope to enjoy times like that too!

    • Yes Marge it was so sweet, I loved being with him, he is just the greatest and sweetest young man. I was there when he was born, how can he be 14 already? We must treasure these times while we have them…
