In yesterday’s post (scroll down toward bottom of post) I talked about how I make my coffee now that I’m on keto. It is good, good enough, good enough for right now. And it packs a punch and keeps me going for some long while because of the high fat content. This is good. Today I am having my coffee really late. I got up embarrassingly late for me and it was noon before I had my coffee made after taking care of the dogs. I sip it slowly and for a long time. I sip it even when it’s gone cold. It can take me 2 hours or more to finish my coffee this way, I just sip while I work. This is fine. It works for me. And I am already running late for the rest of my day but I wanted to get a little blog post up before I left the house. Shorter is good since yesterday’s was LONG!
My dear friend Noni will be here this evening for dinner, and here for weekend meals too, and I have to do a big shopping for keto foods. I have been carefully reading and studying and made out a long grocery list. I will get what I can afford for now and keep adding to it. My cupboards and fridge have been cleaned out a lot getting rid of non-keto foods, I am changing my food life. It’s very exciting. I also have to get a couple of prescriptions refilled so I’m on my way out the door to Costco as soon as I get this post up.
I look forward to the weekends all week long because Noni is here. She’s like a sister. It’s a great reunion after the week of days where we lived our lives, handling everything that came up, the ups and downs, the surprises and delights, the problems that have arisen, and we can share them and talk them through. And we can watch our new show. We just started watching The Gilmore Girls on Netflix last weekend and love it. My daughter and my friend Bekah both raved about it and said we would love it. It’s a comforting thing to find a show you really like. We watched 3 episodes last weekend, but there are 153 episodes! It’s a bit daunting but it will be fun. We’ve been kind of lost since we finished Downtown Abbey, we’ve watched a few movies since then, but it’s just really nice to have something you can follow, excited for the episodes to come, and yes, binge-watching!
There are other things about the keto way of life that have nothing to do with food. These are some of the harder things for me. Sleep is important and I do pretty well there. But exercise is hard for me. Groan. I have a recumbent stationary bike and I’m using that. I have to make myself. There are so many things I can see myself doing in the future but I really do need to lose a good chunk of weight first. As I said last night I started out 2 weeks ago at 333 pounds. I lost 12 pounds the first week and I am continuing on, down another pound today, but when you carry this much weight it is hard to do physical things. I do intend to get back to yoga one day. I used to go to classes 2-3 times a week and I loved it but then I fell down a flight of stairs and broke both feet badly, they didn’t heal well, my big toe will not bend at all. It is very hard for me to get UP once I’m down on the mat. But one day I will do whatever I have to do to get back to yoga. It’s important for my life.
In keto it is also suggested that you eliminate stress any way you can, and meditation is highly recommended. I have tried to meditate for years, took classes in it, went to zen centers and meditated with others, but frankly, well, my bipolar brain goes all over the place and I just can’t settle down. I’m going to have to learn. I am investigating videos on youtube but for now I am finding that just listening to something soothing, consciously relaxing, closing my eyes and breathing for awhile is a good way to start. I have fallen in love with this video and I really wanted to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it. It is Native American Flute and the sound of rain and thunder. My whole body relaxes as soon as I put it on. I’m listening to it right now.
Have a lovely day dear friends. I will be thinking of you all as we journey onward on our parallel paths. Warm regards, and deepest blessings to all…

That’s lovely relaxing music and sound. I think anything that relaxes you reduces stress. It does not have to be meditation.
Have a fun weekend with Noni!
Thanks Joan and I think you’re right, just listening to this music is soul soothing. And thanks, Noni and I had a wonderful time last night and I’m looking forward to her being back tonight! I hope you have a fun weekend too. 🙂
I’m enjoying the beautiful flute music, thank you Maitri. I like to open my window here a little bit so that I can hear the birds, and the wind in the trees, nature’s own soundtrack. Have a lovely weekend with Noni, you’ll be planning lots of new recipes together! Hugs for you and the pugs! x
Oh Jenny, I’m so glad that you liked the music, it is truly beautiful, but right now there are the birds singing outside my windows and there’s nothing sweeter so I know what you mean. Yes, Noni and I will be trying lots of new recipes, it’s an adventure! 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend honey… 🙂
Thank you for the lovely music! I find that it helps me relax, don’t you?
Funny thing about being KETO: All the changes (hair, skin, poop, sleep) were things I worried about until I realized that I was finally normal! I chuckled when you said you slept in. Maybe you just plain slept (like real people)?
So excited to claim you as a keto-kin!
Oh Jan you’re so welcome, I just love that music!
And Keto is an adventure. The main thing I worry about is how to figure out how to count the carbs and protein etc. I am working on that now. And it surely is nice to have companions on the journey. Thank you so much for being here! 😀
