Yesterday on the way home from the doctor I stopped 2 places for things to make merry. I stopped at the grocery store to buy some little bundles of logs for the fireplace, I will be having my first fires in the fireplace this year since the fire happened in 2014. February 5 it will be 5 years since the fire and I have sorely missed having real fires. I have a nice fireplace and it was one of the things that was a must-have when I was looking for a house in 2009 (The other thing was a fenced yard for my dogs.). It is time to have a few fires over the winter. No more cord of wood and nightly fires, I can’t afford a cord of wood and don’t need that much, but on special nights it will be lovely. I am going to have my first fire tomorrow night when Rachel comes over for dinner and to watch our show, and then next Monday Noni is coming over and we are going to have a fire in the fireplace, make keto hot chocolate with whipped cream, and watch White Christmas. I’m looking so forward to it.
My next stop was the Dollar Store. The Dollar Store is an important part of making Christmas for me. Last year I got my little tree for the front room from the Dollar Store. I always get my wrapping supplies from the Dollar Store, and I have wanted to find a little Christmas village scene to put on the dividing wall between the kitchen and front room but I didn’t see one. I may try a different Dollar store type place, there are several different types of dollar stores in town, and see if I can find one next time I have to go out. Last year I got the little tree there, but I always get new Christmas mugs. I just love them. Coffee in the morning in a Christmas mug is a must for the season. I love the little elf and Santa mugs I found yesterday.
It is looking really festive here now with the lights inside and out, the two Christmas trees, and the wreaths, and the Christmas mugs and it is making me so happy. I have to have my feet up a lot right now and it is so lovely to watch the flickering lights. One night I will make a fire in here just for Pugsley and I and we will enjoy a cozy fire with a Christmas movie. I have several favorites I can’t wait to watch. The Holiday, Love Actually, and The Family Stone are at the top of the list besides White Christmas which is a must! There is also a very sweet movie called Noel with Susan Sarandon, Penelope Cruz, Robin Williams and others which I found a few years ago and love.
It is time to take a little rest so I will stop here. I hope you are all finding your way into the Christmas season with lovely things, favorite old traditions and new delights. I know it is still early for some people but I like the season to last as long as possible so it starts here the day after Thanksgiving.
The joys are many, and love abounds. May the holiday season be filled with peace, joy and love, in your hearts and all around. Pugsley and I send our love…
Winter chill — brrr — brr
dragging plants in, saving them
and drinking coffee
of course!
thinking of you drinking yours out of yr christmas mugs. i have a few i keep tucked away until this time of year…
keep twinkling
Ah Ka I just brought plants in from the front porch. They are predicting our first freeze tonight! Challenging because I don’t have good sunny windows for plants in this house which is one of the things I hate because I have always had lots of plants but can’t really here but I have a couple of tropical hibiscus, and a couple of herbaceous hibiscus in pots I don’t want killed and 2 begonias that have done amazingly well, and a couple of other things. I don’t know how they will fare over the winter but I’ve brought them in.
I will raise my Christmas mug to you across the miles with my coffee in the morning. Good cheer dear friend. And yes, it is a time for twinkling. I just plugged in the blue lights half an hour ago. There’s magic out there… 🙂

The holiday season is truly about love, gratitude, and celebration about being alive — I’ve been in many different places in the world during the time in December running through Christmas and New Year’s — it’s always about celebration, whatever religion is practiced or how these two now global holidays are observed.
Lisa how lovely that you have traveled and experienced many different traditions and seen the universality of the season celebrated cross culturally. There’s a book in that! Lordy there are so many books you could write coming out of your travels. I would love to read them! May your celebrations through the season be filled with love and joy…
Maitri,
This all sounds so perfect. Nothing like a cheerful Christmas mug to make the morning coffee more joyful. I love a gentle fire, too. My grandparents used to have roaring hot fires because that’s how they heated their houses. I can still hear the popping and crackling of the wood in the fireplace. Enjoy your gentle fire — I hope it warms your soul!
Thank you so much sweet Maggie, and yes, I am having my coffee just now in my elf mug and it’s so cute, and I have the fireplace all set up for the fire for Rachel and I tonight, I’m looking so forward to it. And talking to you last night helped me so much, I really love you so dearly. I hope you have a blessed and beautiful day…
What a comforting post! I love how I can envision the scene through the words on the blog! God bless you.
Thank you dear Marge, I’m so happy you enjoyed it and I so appreciate you being here with me. Many blessings and much love to you…
