Writing and Knitting, back and forth, Delilah in my lap. I started knitting in the last entry with the yarn that is on the needles but the next yarn is already picked out and my mind is dancing all over the place. It will be a freeform scarf with handpainted and handspun yarns. Delicious. I do best working back and forth between my head and hands. Writing, knitting, writing, knitting…
At the bottom of the last post you saw my little portable altar that is always next to me here because I meditate and pray throughout the day. After the candle in a glass jar has burned completely down I keep it here and pour the liquid wax from other candles into it when they are overflowing. In this one there are 3 different candle’s waxes poured in. I only use natural candles, soy candles, beeswax candles, etc, and as I pour the layers of wax in throughout the day I add a few little crystals in each layer and some essential oil special blends. By the end it is very full, beautiful, with many crystals and oils are rubbed over the top. These are very lovely, fragrant, and made during times of prayer and meditation. They carry a sacred aura with them wherever they are…
It was a cold, crisp autumn day and the pugs and I were in and out all day long. Here are 3 of the 4. From left to right Delilah, 5, Sampson, 15, and Tanner, 4…
It was a day for cleaning out The Fairy Garden and planting hundreds of tiny bulbs, several unusual colors of crocus, three different colors of grape hyacinths, tiny species iris, anemones, and more. The fairies will have a ball come spring. I had these raised wooden planters built just for the fairy garden last summer and it was gorgeous, full of flowers of all types. Much of it has gone by, but this just makes way for many new things to be planted. I love this time of year in the garden…
This year I planted 5 different types of lavender and they did beautifully and grew quite a lot. They are not flowering now but just working in them to clean out and plant my hands and the air were bright with the fragrance of the lavender…
I am just tickled to pieces because in the spring I ordered, from eBay, 25 old fashioned sweet violets and they were no more than rooted cuttings. I planted them here and there all the way around the 3 sides of The Fairy Garden and they have come up beautifully. Their leaves are the most brilliant green and in the spring they will be covered with tiny purple violets, powerfully fragrant. In this area I am planting beautiful little species iris just a few inches tall. The fairies will love this!
Saturdays have become the day to cook for the week ahead, a big stew in the crockpot, and a big casserole of apples baked with butter and powdered ginger. I serve the apples warm and put them in a bowl with a big dollop of Greek yogurt on top. Here is the stew just getting started. A lot more vegetables and goodies were added over a couple of hours…
Finally tonight the dogs and I walked outside for the last time about 10 p.m. I love to take pictures at night and there is the eeriest quality to the photographs here at night. I did not use any special effects here but there are pink orbs and other strange things that show up in the photos. I just accept it as part of the magic of these woods. This is one of my favorite trees. There is the antique wrought iron trellis that supports the clematis that fills the tree now. It is one of my favorite of the many varieties of clematis I grow. This one is Clematis odorata montana, whose small waxy pink flowers have a powerful vanilla perfume that fills the garden when it is in full bloom, covered with clusters of flowers. I adore clematis…
Finally a last walk around The Fairy Garden on the way in. I’m excited about all that is going in now that will be enchanting in the spring. The fairies will be making magic for months, hiding amongst thick fragrant plantings of flowers and herbs. Now the Root Children sleep beneath the soil as we all move closer to winter, and for tonight we have come to the close of another day here at Dragonfly Cottage…
Blessings and Love to one and all…
