The Experiment: Day 27 ~ “Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits…” A.A. Milne…

This is me, right now. I am fine, I am not depressed, nor am I soaring with joy, and that’s okay. It is a sitting and thinking, or maybe mostly just sitting kind of afternoon. It is almost 6 p.m. I was out this afternoon — therapy, the pharmacy to get medication for one of the pugs, etc. — and my darling daughter Rachel will be here at 7:30. Tonight we’re going to watch our shows. We are watching This Is Us on Wednesday nights on Hulu — it comes on on Tuesday night but I no longer have cable hence no t.v., and we used to watch it together at our respective houses, texting one another in the commercials. Now we watch it on Hulu — it’s so much fun having a show to share, and then we watch maybe a couple of episodes of our other show which is JUST hysterical (…also a little uncomfortable for us to watch together because of the sexual content, though it’s a comedy, not real explicit! and we laugh our way through the whole show. Laughing is good!), it is Catastrophe on amazon and it is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. The late Carrie Fisher was in it when she was alive. Anyway, I’m just having a sit down for a few minutes before I have to feed the dogs their dinner.

Sometimes you needs to just sits and thinks, or even just sits, as A.A. Milne said. It’s all I’m really up to right now. I am not feeling very well but that is to be expected. Going on the keto diet in the first weeks, going off all sugars, grains, flour, processed carbs like breads and crackers and such — your only carbs come from vegetables — no more glass of wine in the evening, well, you get what they refer to as The Keto Flu, as your body adjusts you start to detox. Not fun, but I am actually thrilled because I know it is working. And I don’t miss sugar at all except in my coffee but I just ordered from amazon, which came today, a keto approved sweetener called Swerve, keto people rave about it, my therapist uses it, it’s supposed to taste like sugar with no aftertaste, and just to put a little of this in my coffee in the morning with heavy cream which you’re allowed will be just dandy. I am learning, day by day, and I am so happy I have finally done this.

I want to say something more, something profound, or thoughtful, but right now “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak,” I have no energy to say much more. But I’ll tell you what I would like to do. I would just like to sit here with you and watch the clouds go by. It is just what one needs on this kind of day. So I leave you with clouds. Take a deep breath, relax, float with the clouds, ahhhhh, doesn’t that feel good?

Be at peace dear friends, and float, just float…

  1. I love clouds so this was perfect for me to just sit and watch them. I imagine we are watching them together ❤️.
I hope you feel better soon with the diet and overall too. I admire how you are continuing each day with this writing.
    Love, Jean

    • Ah yes Jean, the clouds, aren’t they lovely? And the music is nice too. And thank you for your kind words about my continuing with this writing. I swear, it is wonderful, it is actually life changing, it is doing exactly what I hoped it would do, although I wasn’t sure how it would go but I am more positive, more up, and I am doing healthy things in my life, not even just the diet but like yesterday’s “Ikigai.” I think it’s so important to work, gently, to restore the body/mind/spirit connection. And so I shall continue, and I appreciate you being here with me so much. Blessings to you dearheart… 🙂

  2. Hope your keto flu does not last too long Maitri. Enjoy your coffee tomorrow!

    • Thank you so much Joan honey, I don’t think it will last too long and MAN am I looking forward to my coffee tomorrow morning! 😀 Thanks again so much for being here Joan, it means a lot to me…

  3. one time when i was driving, i heard an interview on NPR with an englishman who had founded the “cloud appreciation society.” really! i decided then and there i was definitely a member. i love clouds. i love taking pictures of them, writing haiku about them, rising up in the air and floating on their cottony bosoms (as it were)… and just watching them change shape, drift, become new, unravel, re-form — it’s quite a dance!

so thank you for including the clouds in your blog today, dear maitri

i will be offering a Haiku Hour at a peace dance retreat this weekend, and it just occurred to me, if there are clouds up and about, we could write cloud haiku!

    • Ah, sweet Ka, how perfect! A cloud appreciation society! I just love that, and I love clouds so much. I can remember lying in the grass when I was young looking up at the clouds, looking for animals or angels or whatever I could see up there. They felt like very special messages to me. And you are so welcome, it was fun to put them in. And oh! How fun! A cloud haiku… that is lovely Ka. I hope you and Tom have a wonderful weekend this weekend. Sending you big love….

I hope the is to flu passes quickly for & that you soon real the benefits! Since my call & the 2 subsequent surgeries, my appetite has decreased, which for me, makes it easier to make better food choices, & my blood sugars have borne that out. I also think that the choices I’m making (more protein, fruits & veggies, & less carbs) along with the physical activity of therapy, have given me more energy. I’ve also been diet soda free for almost 2 weeks, drinking ice water & finding that I actually crave it! All of this is good for my diabetes & primary cholangitis ( newly diagnosed chronic lived disease).

When you wrote about watching the clouds together, I was reminded of warm summer days, lying on the soft, fresh grass, watching the fluffy white clouds, & imagining that one looked like a poodle, while another looked like a ship! Such a sweet & innocent time! And though I don’t like in the grass anymore, I still watch the clouds, especially when the sky is as clear & blue as it was today!

    • Thank you dear Susan, it will pass and I surely will reap benefits. I am doing more and more research on this diet and reading a wonderful book on it and it is truly amazing the illnesses that have been cured with a keto diet. It’s going to be so good for me. And isn’t it so funny the way life works? It’s terrible, of course, that you hurt your arm, but it has set you on a healthy path and that is wonderful. I’m so happy for you. And oh yes, the shapes in the clouds, I used to love lying in the grass and looking for them when I was young, but I, too, would not like to lie in the grass now. It was such a sweet, innocent time though, wasn’t it?

I hope you continue to heal well and soon. Take care honey. And look up at the clouds, I think they are magic… 🙂

  5. Yes Maitri, it feels very good indeed to just sit sometimes and watch the clouds go by. There are times when I feel The Shoulds. I should be full of thrilling conversation, profound thoughts, creating amazing (for me) art instead of my own personal brand of creating. I should have all the right answers, do everything properly – you get the picture. It’s so important to just sit and watch the world go by. I hope there’s room for one more on the seat
    <3

    • Oh Moira it’s so good to see you honey and I understand exactly what you mean. Let’s just be gentle and easy with ourselves for awhile, watch the clouds go by, and let our brains unwind and relax for awhile. The Shoulds will do us ALL in! And here — patting seat beside me — come sit by me, there’s plenty of room! Bless you honey, and thanks for being here… 🙂
