As A Writer Morphs ~ Once Deep Into A New Book I Disappear…

When I entered the studio, I was relaxed and happy…

I had been in the garden first thing, and cut roses from the abundance of blossoms all around the cottage. The smell of the roses, the gift from Mother Nature, would help keep me grounded. When I am at work on a book I find it hard to live in the physical world. My animals, plants, being in the garden, and small tasks around the cottage help keeprooted in this terra firma…

As I sat down to write I felt a chill, the physical sensations as mind leaves body and turns into words, thoughts, ideas, semi-colons, metaphors, similes, and a wide range of colors and textures make the physical body go cold as the spirit warms the inner fire, the body must be covered. I live in a cottage full of shawls.

I put the roses in an old antique cobalt blue bottle and sat them near me. I surrounded myself with stones, crystals, fetishes, sacred objects, feathers fromthe birds, books in stacks all around me, dogs curled into me, parrots speaking parrot-speak, and I let my body drift away as I dipped my pen in the bottle of ink. I am here, but you can’t see me. I’ll be back, later, or tomorrow, and talk a little more about my writing process which is deeply spiritual, and tends toward poetic non-fiction, as I tell the story of Dragonfly Cottage which I have long been asked to write. I must allow my spirit to stretch the length of a decade to capture the stars and stones and magic and wonder, the sorrow, the joy and all the rest. I must leave my body to do it. Here I
go…

I’ll be back, if only a whisper on the wind…

  1. Hello – such beautiful roses. We are still awaiting the appearance of bluebells. Do the roses have perfume? I managed to buy one two years ago that doesn’t have many blossoms but when they are open smell like a ‘Turkish delight.’
    Your blog is lovely.
    Regards, Polly
